Unlike the Bronco models sold in North America, the Basecamp is developed exclusively for the Chinese market by Jiangling Ford (JMC). It debuted at the Chengdu Auto Show and is now available for pre-order. Ford is offering early customers a compelling incentive: a free “One-Touch Roof Camping Package” worth ¥12,000 ($1,685), which includes a pop-up panoramic glass roof that tilts 14.2 inches skyward, creating extra headroom above the second row.
This feature transforms the Bronco into a mobile campsite. The front seats fold flat with retractable headrests, and the second-row seats can be laid down and covered with a Bronco-branded inflatable mattress. At the rear, Ford has added a “mountain kitchen” on the tailgate, complete with a fold-down table, magnetic knife strip, drinks holder, and integrated bottle opener.
Electrified Powertrains with Serious Range
The Bronco Basecamp comes in two electrified variants:
- Fully Electric (EV): Powered by a 105.4 kWh BYD FinDreams LFP battery pack, this version features dual motors—130 kW up front and 202 kW at the rear—for a combined output of 445 hp. It offers 404 miles (650 km) of range on the Chinese CLTC cycle.
- Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV): This model combines a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine with two electric motors and a 43.7 kWh battery. It delivers 416 hp and an electric-only range of 137 miles (220 km), with a total range of 758 miles (1,220 km) when the gas engine kicks in.

Dimensionally, the Basecamp is larger than both the U.S. Bronco and Bronco Sport. It rides on a 116.1-inch (2,950 mm) wheelbase and stretches 197.8 inches (5,025 mm) in overall length. That’s longer than the standard Bronco and significantly larger than the Bronco Sport, giving it a commanding road presence.
The design retains classic Bronco cues, including an illuminated “BRONCO” logo integrated into the headlights, functional hood air channels, and a floating roofline. It also features LiDAR and over 30 high-precision sensors, enabling advanced navigation and route planning through the infotainment system.
Ford has even included an “Off-road Logbook” with over 20 curated routes, allowing users to plan and share their adventures digitally.
Market Strategy and Exclusivity
Ford has made it clear: the Bronco Basecamp is for China only. There are no current plans to bring this electrified model to North America. This exclusivity reflects Ford’s strategy to tailor vehicles to regional tastes and needs.
